The biggest global Web 2.0 Knowledge Network

With 20,000 members in about 200 countries Academici, the professional social network of academics, scientists, knowledge workers, people from industry, venture capital, business angels, media and publishing marks the high end of Web 2.0 networks, both in terms of membership and technology. Started as a private club on openbc in 2004 within a business environment, Academici now moved to a new software that is specifically tailored towards knowledge exchange and social interaction. On top of all the features core to Web 2.0 applications, members can quickly find the right connections from a graphic visualisation of the whole academici-network. Unlike known online learning application that are confined to a particular campus and an academic year, Academici allows a research oriented and global WebIT support for lecturing, running workshops or conferences. Over and against networks like Facebook, partner organisations, universities, institutions and companies can re-brand the Academici network and use the software for their own target group (as in use for example by the Rotterdam Marathon Runners: http://www.like2run.nl/ or the Global Innovation Network, http://www.ginnn.com/). "Academici broadens our lecture hall to the globe. We interact on our essay topics with specialists in New Zealand, India and the States" (Chris, 3rd year student, Birmingham University). "We had just our new Head of College appointed, a Dean from West Australia - and, of course, she is a member of Academici" (Professor Markus Vinzent, founder of Academici)

Academici covers all academic areas (Arts and Humanities, Social Sciences; Business, Economics, Maths; Sciences; and Lifestyle) and has partnerships with major publishers (Academic Matters) and career boards (http://www.career.edu/; http://www.access-sciencejobs.co.uk/). Leading academics and scientists have joined Academici - the social network designed by academics for academics. The Technical University of Chemnitz, Germany, was one of the first to sign up to a "corporate membership".
