One of the best ways to involve employees in improving business processes is to use a technique called Value Stream Mapping. This is a well established technique, originally developed by Toyota in Japan to identify, quantify and eliminate Waste in processes. It can be used to create a clear and realistic view of processes as they really happen, and to develop an effective improvement plan.
In this element we will look at an accessible and practical way of implementing the technique that and how to then develop a robust plan to improve a process. This approach is proven in a variety of environments from sales order processing to shop floor manufacturing processes to inventory management.
