Granting rights to others - Multi-institution inventions

Where an invention has been made by people employed at different institutions (and in particular different HEIs), it is often sensible for just one HEI to take the lead in patenting, marketing and commercialising the IP. An inter-institutional agreement can help to clarify the arrangements for this, setting out who will take the lead, how costs (e.g. for patenting) are to be shared, and how any remaining income from commercialisation would be divided up.
