Cambridgeshire Entrepreneur Launches Online Service To Help People Find The Right Person For The Job

Release Date:
27 Nov 2006
A revolutionary new website that helps people find reliable companies and individuals who can provide a particular service, whether it is to get a taxi to Stansted airport, a labourer to clear out your garden or a personal trainer, is being launched nationwide following a successful trial across Cambridgeshire.

Whoocan ( http://www.whoocan.com) is the brainchild of Peterborough-based 19 year-old Sophie Hurford. The service was trialed in Cambridgeshire earlier in 2006 and proved extremely popular with users. It was initially aimed at people looking to find reliable tradesmen but the concept proved so popular that it has since been broadened so people can now find any type of service provider.

Whoocan has been designed to enable anyone needing a particular service to find someone who can do the job done and reduce the risk and time involved with finding good, reliable service providers. People simply place details of the job they want doing on the website and relevant service providers registered on Whoocan are automatically emailed and asked to provide a quote.

Once quotes have been received a service provider can be selected based on the price quoted for the work and from ratings and feedback which have been posted on the website by previous customers. When a quote has been selected Whoocan puts the supplier and the customer in contact - in a similar way to eBay.

Also, in a similar way to eBay, once registered on Whoocan, people can use the website again and again. One week they might need someone to entertain at a children's party, the next they might need some curtains making.

As an introductory launch offer, people can post their first job on Whoocan for free. After that, jobs can be placed for a small fee of £1.50 which is payable through PayPal or by credit card.

All visitors to the website can see details of all the jobs posted and quotes sent. Service providers can register to receive enquiries and can send quotes for free.

Sophie has spent over one year developing Whoocan. The service proved highly successful when trialled across Cambridgeshire earlier this year.

'Whoocan was a huge success during the trial,' said Sophie. 'People found the site extremely valuable and everyone wondered why it hasn't been done before. Service providers rushed to register which meant that people were able to easily choose the right person for the job. Following the trial the website's capabilities were broadened and it was made easier to use.'

Whoocan's ease of use and speed of service mean that people no longer have to search for service providers to get a job done, all the hard work is done on their behalf. People often spend time trying to contact suppliers only to find that they are too busy or are unable to meet their needs. Through Whoocan, people will only get quotations from service providers that have the capacity to take on work or are able to supply the service required. They are therefore more likely to do the job quicker and for a better price.

Jobs can be posted on the site 24 hours a day, seven days a week which means that people are not restricted to finding service providers during normal business hours.

Once a job is complete both the customer and the service provider are asked to rate each other. This information is then available to others to view, giving them an insight into the level of service they can expect to receive.

Sophie added: 'Many people have little time to shop around for quotes and to search for someone they can trust to do a job or provide a service. Other times it may be difficult to find someone who is able to provide you with what you need.'

'That is where Whoocan can help. It is ideal for people who do not have the time to look for service providers which can sometimes mean they don't get the best deal or the best service.'

'I have great ambition for Whoocan. I want it to be the way that people find suppliers - not just in the UK, across the world.'

'Any time anyone needs a service - Whoocan do it!'
