The University of East Anglia is an internationally renowned, research-led University with over 14,000 students contributing to its world-class research expertise. An opportunity exists for companies to work with students from Biological Sciences, Biochemistry or Natural Sciences.
The University is seeking companies to act as placement providers to host undergraduate ‘Year in Industry’ student placements. These placements give students a valuable chance to experience science in the workplace, provide an opportunity for industry to enhance and influence their future workforce and help UEA develop their pool of experienced science graduates.
Students are recruited between the second and final year of their 4 year ‘Year in Industry’ degree, a course which carries a higher entry grade requirement and requires continued academic excellence throughout ensuring all work placement students are of the highest calibre.
All students benefit from a strong research environment, with an ethos of research-led teaching. There are firm links to local research institutes (the John Innes Centre, Sainsbury Laboratory and Institute of Food Research on the Norwich Research Park) as well as the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. Aside from faculty and fellows within the university, many staff at these institutes hold honorary positions at the university and bring their expertise to specific modules.
Placements students are:
- Expected to join the company’s pay roll for at least 30 weeks
- Supported by a University of East Anglia mentor
- Supervised to ensure work carried out is appropriate to the needs of both university and industry
Placement companies:
- Interview prospective students
- Nominate an industrial supervisor
- Meet formally with the University mentor before and during placement
- Potential to employ placement student after graduation
