After completing her degree in Film and American Studies at the University of East Anglia in 2003, Susie wanted to stay in the area as she liked the region and saw opportunities for a good quality of life and career development within it. She independently secured some work experience at a magazine publisher in Norwich and shortly afterwards applied for and was offered a job as a junior reporter at the Great Yarmouth and Waveney Advertisers based in Gorleston on the east Norfolk coast and started in this role in August 2003.
